Welcome to the mind—to the world—of Fake Steve Jobs. Fake Steve the counterintuitive management guru: “Obviously we can’t literally put our employees’ lives at risk. But we have to make them feel that way.” Fake Steve the celebrity hobnobber: “I like Bono. He’s the only person I know who’s more self-absorbed than I am.” Options is the book that had the critics howling—with laughter: “A voice for our own digital age….Mac-slappingly funny.”… More >>

I am sure we would all agree that there is nothing quite as funny as brazen hypocrisy. I would invite you to read some of Danny’s articles in Forbes such as “Revenge Of The Nerds” or “Fighting Back” or “Who is Pamela Jones” or “Attack of the Blogs.” Seems that Danny has been a long time hater of those who dare to post on blogs anonymously. According to Danny “Web logs are the prized platform of an on-line lynch mob spouting liberty but spewing lies, libel and invective”. Now it turns out that little Danny has been posting on his blog anonymously for all this time, is that not hilarious? Danny also lavished praise on “intrepid reporter, Maureen O’Gara.” Danny just loved the way Maureen relentlessly stalked, and harassed, PJ and PJ’s elderly mother. Especially the way Maureen bragged about obtaining, and researching PJ’s private cell-phone records, and looking inside PJ’s residence, and bashing PJ’s religious beliefs. Maureen’s action were so vile, that the entire editorial staff of linuxworld resigned in disgust. Danny loved it.

For all those who liked the Fake Steve Jobs blog, this book is a must read. MUST READ.

I’ve long been a fan of Fake Steve Jobs. FSJ is the author of The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs, a hysterical blog that takes everything in the technology world to task, with a few forays into politics, Hollywood, and the music industry. This novel focuses on FSJ as he deals with the options backdating scandal. I have to admit that I wondered whether the FSJ persona could stand up to a whole novel. I needn’t have worried – the book is sharp, wicked, and often laugh-out-loud funny. I’ll buy several copies as gifts for geek friends.
Rating: 5 / 5
While it does have its LOL moments, it’s easy to see why the blog format works so much better for FSJ. The wise-cracking jokes are there, but the overarching story holding it all together is a bit untenable.

The author of the popular blog, “The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs,” offers a cruel but fun parody of the real Steve Jobs in this quick-to-read little book. “Options” is a fake chronicle of a year in the life of Steve Jobs, starting when the options back-dating brouhaha hit the press in mid-2006 and ending with the launch of the iPhone in June 2007. If you’re a fan of the blog, you’ll like this book. It’s chock full of the same dark humor and celebrity-skewering satire that earned Daniel Lyons a wide audience and a spot on the now-defunct Business 2.0’s “50 Who Matter Now” (in 2007) list. Yes, the real Steve Jobs also made the list.
There are plenty of laugh-out-loud anecdotes in the book. The Hillary fund-raiser at Doerr’s house. Soul-searching with Larry in Woodside. Confabs with record-company execs in LA. Chances are you’ll whip through this book in no time, and it’ll brighten up your day (it doesn’t take much longer than that to finish it). Some of Lyons’ references to names and places may be foreign to first-time readers. But that shouldn’t matter. “Options” may be a fake biography, but it’s a real pleasure to read if you’re looking for a light-hearted contemporary satire.
